Ever offer free hosting?
Any of you ever offer free hosting for friends, and then later switch over to paid services? I've heard of some people starting out with one machine for friends, but in today's market, I am curious if this is a viable approach.

I offer free hosting for my family's website.
Much more than that if I'm gonna host someone for free there are some very specific guidelines. I won't host anyone asking more than 500MB of bandwidth/month for free, at least not to start off. I don't ever give reseller options as there is no need for a FREE account regardless of what they say. If I check their site and there isn't a banner on one of the pages, account suspended until further notice. Among a few other things. I figure if they're not paying for the bandwidth they can stick to the set guidelines.

I agree, Unless they are giving instead of just taking, it isn't worth it. Although family always want to get a freebie no matter what business you are in.
