The RSS version is 1.0.

Just so you know, you can find that by going through the phpdig demo, then click on the "view RSS for this page" link. At the top of the code on that page, you'll see the RSS version number.

Are you having problems utilizing the RSS feed?

I have no problems with the feed. It does validate. But, I didn't see the version number there. How about setting up the feed in a way where it can be pulled up dynamically by just adding the parameters to the rss url, similar to how results can be pulled up using search.php.

I am not sure how to generate direct results of a rss feed, by just typing in a url, without first having to do a search first.
