PHP Install?

Hello Everyone,

My ISP is Sonic.net and they do run PHP but they run in "Safe Mode." They say:

"The biggest issue is that the php processor
runs with the userid of the web server, not with your userid. That means that any data files that the php program writes to have to be writable by the web server userid. "

I am new to all this and was wondering if PhpDig will work under these conditions?

Thanks,

Bob

Welcome to the forum, ergobob.

Here's what the phpdig documentation says about safe mode:
Quote:
Because of the time consuming indexing process, the Apache/php web server which performs the process must not be safe_mode configured.
This limit can be turn :
- Using distant indexing with MySql TCP connexion and FTP connexion ;
- Launching indexing process in a shell command. This can be made by a cron task.
Hope this helps.

Hi Vinyl Junkie,

Thanks for pointing that out. I am so clueless with this technology that I should probably pass. My ISP says they are planning to change Safe Mode in some way and if they do I may give it a shot.

Does this sound reasonable?

Sounds reasonable to me. Another option is shopping for another Web host.

I hope you're able to clear the obstacles to using phpdig. I know you'll be really pleased with it.
