PhpDig versus other search engines!

Greetings!

Curious to know which is the "best" search engines, I tried four search engines.

Sph(i)der: http://www.rmdhar.com/search/search.php
TSEP: http://www.rmdhar.com/search2/
isearch2: http://www.rmdhar.com/search3/index.php and
PhpDig: http://www.rmdhar.com/search4/search.php

I ensured that the index was updated in all.

If you use a full word e.g. "washington", all four engines deliver the result.

If you use part of the word e.g. "wash", PhpDig and isearch2 are able to find the pages while TSEP and Sph(i)der return no results.

If you use two words e.g. "wash" and "teen", PhpDig returns precise results while isearch2 falters.

If you use three words e.g. "wash", "teen" and "fakir", PhpDig returns precise results while isearch2 greets you with "No results found".

If you use four words e.g. "wash", "teen", "fakir" and "mumbai", PhpDig still returns precise results while all the others have given up a long time ago.

I tried five words and PhpDig was still at it!

Even if you insert a non-existent word e.g. "dombcgfrt", still the PhpDig engine does not falter.

PhpDig is accordingly far superior to all other search engines!!

Just another 2-bit thought: While PhpDig is far superior to all other search engines in so far as searching is concerned, customizing it requires complex editing of templates which is beyond my present capability) and (ii) restraining it from travelling beyond your domain is not easy.

Can somebody please post a detailed tutorial on (i) how to customize PhpDig so that it fits with a site's page and (ii) how to restrain PhpDig to search only within the site.

Hi if you edit the config.php file you will see a line of text that mentions

define('PHPDIG_IN_DOMAIN',true); //allows phpdig jump hosts in the same domain.
So change this to false and you will find that phpdig stays inside your domain and doesn't follow links to other domains it finds.

its works right for various search result, is it hav any chance of getting falted..?

You should find that it will stop the spider from finding links outside the domain and it also stps the spider in most cases find sub domains as well.
I often index geaneology based websites and they have heaps of free pages set as sub domains before I tried those setting it would alays try and index the whole thing.

So web developers do add a few html comments inside a domain which can trapa spider into indexing onwards but in the end I wrote a small patch that stops this.
Not may web developers have the skilss needed to try trick spiders Google may not revisit to often if it is found.

Keaap up the good work!

My version which has been heaviliy modified has now indexed over one hundred and ten million webpages.
So the scope to to enhance PHPDIG is very good to say the least.
